Getting Into A Job Interview

With the financial crisis going on, everybody needs to find a job. Now, you found yourself desperately browsing through the internet or the Classified Ads section of a newspaper looking for a job. Suddenly, you found a potential workplace suitable to you. You are so much interested in that job and you submit your resume to that particular company. After a long wait, that company gives you a call telling that your job interview is scheduled for next week. You are so excited but it is your first time to be engaged in an interview. What do you have to do now to perform well? You really need to pass that interview and get your dream job.

Job interview's test if you are qualified enough to get the job. Job interview questions are based on skills, knowledge and abilities of the applicant.

Here are some tips on how you should act in the whole job interview process:

Before you come to the interview:

Be prepared. The key term here is PREPARATION. If you are well-prepared, then you are ready for anything that may happen to you in your job interview.
Do some RESEARCH about the Company. You may visit their website. Study their brochures and talk to their employees. Go to the company itself to familiarize yourself on the ins and outs of your job. However, be careful not to be too nosy.
Set possible questions for an interview. PRACTICE either by yourself or with a friend to gain confidence.
Choose the appropriate attire. Be presentable but make sure that you are comfortable wearing them.
Set a GOAL. Practice your job interview skills. Remember in every job interview, you should always aim for SUCCESS.

During the interview:

Be ON-TIME. Be there 10 minutes before the interview. Let them see that you are really interested to their job offer.
Be yourself. Remember, first impression counts. Do not make up stories that will make you sound not too sure about yourself.
Do not be nervous. Be calm and confident.
Pay attention. Be alert and attentive. Avoid detouring and interruptions.
Be open to questions and answer them naturally.
Have a sense of humor. Form an enjoyable and stimulating but informative atmosphere.
Never talk about money matters (ex. Salary, incentives)

After the interview:

Formally end the interview with a simple goodbye and say thank you.
Even if it doesn’t sound too good to you for an interview, act as if it has been a good one.
Do not apologize at the end of the interview.
Job seekers must send a job interview thank you letter within the day after your interview (may be sent via e-mail or snail mail) and must be sent appropriately. It gives you edge to other applicants.

Learn from your job interview experience. Remember, it is a never-ending cycle in a world where competition is strong.
